Hi there!! Every time I think we might be running out of local destinations to explore, we stumble across another one that blows us away! A couple of weeks ago Brockville opened the Brockville Railway Tunnel that spans underneath the city. My sister-in-law (Yes I can say that now!!) and my father sent us photos of this tunnel on separate occasions during its opening weekend. If you have ever been to Brockville then you know it is a quiet town and they never used to have a neon light tunnel. So when we saw these photos we were really surprised with the new attraction!
I instantly jumped on social media and starting investigating this new location to see if it would make a fun trip. We decided to head up and visit early on a Saturday morning to miss the crowds only to find that there was a MARATHON running through the tunnel and there was no public access 🙁
We were bummed that we missed the tunnel but it’s hard to hate on people being fit. LOL. More recently, we were nearby Brockville again for another fun adventure (stay tuned!) and decided to try the tunnel again.
We lucked out this time! The tunnel was AMAZING! We had high expectations and it exceeded them! It is Canada’s first railway tunnel built in 1863-64 and extends 527m underneath downtown Brockville.
The entire tunnel is lit up with a changing light show that will keep you entertained the entire walk! The Brockville Railway Tunnel also has music and security camera to make sure that you are bopping along safely!
It only took us about 30 minutes to walk and take photos. You wouldn’t need an entire day to see this tunnel but you could continue to explore Brockville if you have a bit more time on your hands!
Thank you for reading!! We hope that these posts entertain you and/or motivate you to go on an adventure! Xoxox L
