Foley Mountain Conservation Area – Lookout

Location: Westport, Ontario

Duration: 30+ minutes

Difficulty: Easy

Overview: Foley Mountain is another local gem and that looks out over the small town of Westport, Ontario. Foley Mountain also overlooks the Upper Rideau Lake (left) and the Westport Pond (right). The Foley Mountain lookout is accessible by car (follow Google Maps) and is located behind the first parking lot on your right. From the parking lot it is a 5-minute walk (stay to your right) through the forest and down the boardwalks until you are presented with this view. We have been here numerous times but our favourite time to visit Foley Mountain is 1-2 hours before sunset. Any earlier in the day and your photos will be pretty backlit and any later the sun will disappear behind the tree line.

As always there are some life rambles at the bottom! So keep reading!

So new news! Sophie is a swimming dog! Until recently she would just wade into the water knee deep, but this past weekend we decided to jump in the lake and so did she! I think it was a combination of excitement and separation anxiety that caused her to jump off the dock but she seemed to love it. We pulled her out of the water and she proceed to jump in five more times on her own and swim around with us in the lake. She doesn’t really jump off the dock yet – she kind of lowers her front legs and then falls into the water with her head going under. LOL

After a while we were finished swimming and decided to head up to the cottage. Sophie went up with my parents and Ryan and I walked up separately. As soon as we got up to the cottage no one could find Sophie and I had a (figurative) heart attack thinking that she had run away. We spent five long minutes looking for her and eventually found her coming out of the water!!! The silly pup had immediately run back down to the dock and jump in the water without us! She must have had some difficulty getting out of the water, which is what took her so long to come back to us. Our hypothesis is that she thought Ryan and I must still be down there in the water so she went looking for us and jumped in. Or she is a reckless puppy that loves to swim!! Either way we had a discussion with her about swimming unsupervised, although I don’t think she took the talk very seriously! LOL

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo Lindsay
